Dogs and Cats

This information applies only to owners and residents of Mackerel Beach.

Day visitors and short term renters (such as AirBnB and Stayz) are strongly discouraged from bringing any pets to Mackerel Beach.

The general rule for dogs at Mackerel Beach is that they must be kept on a lead at all times due to the prolific amount of wildlife in the area.

Restrictions are strictly enforced by National Parks Officers and Northern Beaches Council personnel. To report an issue or non-compliance the Ranger can be contacted via the Northern Beaches Council Website https://www.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/

Off Leash Area & Times

We are fortunate at Mackerel Beach in that we do have two off leash times each day.

Dogs are allowed on the northern end of beach (between the jetty and the National Parks sign) before 9.30am and after 5pm until sunset.

Fines apply if dogs are found to be off lead outside of these times on the beach or off lead in public spaces.

For more detailed information on the dog rules please see the sign in the wharf shed.

Cats are strictly prohibited due to the location of Mackerel and surrounding National Park
